You Scream, I Scream

G for Gelato

75 Jarvis St.

Rating: UNBUTTON YOUR PANTS

So as you know, we’re not new to G for Gelato (GfG), after all we recently did a partnership where we were too lazy to leave our apartments and ordered GfG through the seamless Foodora app. We’ll admit, G is one of our fave spots for a quality, Italian style pizza. Like a girl who studied abroad for a month in Europe would say, “this pizza reminds me of that time I studied abroad in Europe”.

What’s G for Gelato Known For?

Pizza...and gelato, and well, coffee too! Although GfG’s roots are in ice cream that doesn’t mean it has a soft foundation - expanding from its original intentions, GfG makes a mean pizza that holds its own in the East end of Toronto. With humble prices and quality selection, GfG is known for many things, one being the fact that they never fail to please Girls With No Frills.

What did we get?

Caprese ($4.50)

If you’re only eating for the gram, this is the salad you want to order. If you’re eating because you’re blood sugar dropped and you’re starting to get hangry, this is also the salad you want to start your meal with. With alternating layers of tomatoes, mozzarella and basil, the oil and vinegar drizzle draped the dish perfectly. As always, we had to balance our upcoming carbtastic meals with some form of veggies!

Salsiccia ($17)

Menu Description: fior di latte, spicy Italian sausage, caramelized onions, evoo

This is the sweet’n salty of pizzas at G, with the caramelized onions balancing out the lovely salty salsic’ we were pretty happy with our choice. This one’s a real stomach filler, with mounds of sausage, it feels more like a pizza with a side of meat aka GREAT value.

Quattro Stagioni ($17)

Menu Description: tomato sauce, mozzarella, artichoke hearts, black olives, mushrooms, prosciutto.

Quattro stagioni, or four seasons, as it translates in English is traditionally divided into four sections on the pie. GfG will politely ask you if you’d like to spread the toppings evenly or keep with the past. We didn’t stray and opted for the quarterly division and ultimately, fought over the prosciutto slice.

Dessert ($5.50 x 2)

Obviously ice-cream!

With 36 flavours of ice cream (including flavours that cater to dietary restrictions) you can’t leave G without a scoop or two. What’s more is not only do they carry classic flavours like pistachio, nutella, and bacio, but they’ve even entered the North American gourmet flavour lane with flavours like oreo, Kit-Kat, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and more!
